Acne is a common skin problem for most adolescents and also afflicts some adults. People of all ages and backgrounds have had to deal with acne at some point. Hence, there has long been a desire to prevent it or cure it. We will look at some of the causes of acne as well as some of the ways in which people treated. Our hope is that you will gain a better understanding of why people get acne and what they can do for treatment and prevention.

Can acne be more serious than simply a cosmetic issue?

Many people ask this question. Perhaps you are wondering if acne has ever gotten so bad for someone that it turned into something worse. The answer is “yes”. Though acne is a larger health issue for only some people, it is still worth noting the development of the skin irritation into something more troublesome.

In some cases, acne leads to the scarring of the skin or the outbreak of a serious infection. This form of acne is known as cystic acne. Much like its name applies, cystic acne results in a large bump or cyst. Once a cyst heals, it may leave an obvious scar. It should be noted, however, that cystic acne is rare. If you believe that your acne is turning into something more serious than the usual skin irritation, consult a doctor.

How long will acne last?

The good news is that for most people, acne is a somewhat temporary situation. Ask any teenager about acne, however, and he or she will likely tell you that a fear is being destined to a life of acne. Such is the sense of despair and embarrassment caused by acne.

These teens will be glad to know that most will stop developing acne as they near their twenties, if not sooner. They can also rest assured that in most cases, the effects of acne are much less harsh as people exit their teen years. Unfortunately for some, acne can linger for many years after puberty. Some adults experience severe cases of acne or notice occasional outbreaks as they near their thirties and beyond. In some extremely rare cases, individuals who have never had acne develop it in their later years.

What are the mental effects of acne?

Acne may show a body’s failure to properly deal with hormonal changes. Acne can indicate that a person is not dealing with stress effectively. It may be evidence of a potentially serious allergic reaction to a medication or other element. It is not these effects of acne that tend to do the most damage, though.

More than a health issue, acne is known causing people (mainly teens) a sense of shame and embarrassment. Acne is falsely associated with being unclean. Clear, healthy skin is associated with cleanliness, while severe forms of acne are often believed to be the result of sanitary neglect. Not only that, acne can be ugly and turn people away. Most people who experience severe acne are emotionally scarred by the social rejection, leading to adolescent emotional insecurity and a sense of self-doubt. Because of this, acne should be treated as quickly and as thoroughly as possible.

Isn’t it true that staying clean helps prevent acne?

It is always better to rid your skin of toxins and dirt that accumulate during your normal routine. So yes, to some extent, it is true that washing skin can help prevent or decrease acne. Acne is a chemical matter, and it is something that occurs beneath the surface of the skin more so than on the skin itself. Both daily cleansing and care of one’s skin will help reduce the bacteria that rests on the skin, but they cannot lessen the testosterone levels beneath the surface of the skin that help produce acne.

Understanding this basic fact should help reduce some of the stigma attached to acne. It should also allow people who suffer from acne to take some comfort in knowing that they are not necessarily less clean than others. The truth is that they have very little control over what is going on beneath their skin.

How important is a healthy diet to preventing acne?

It is no coincidence that people who eat healthy food tend to have skin that shines and glows. In contrast, think of someone you know who eats nothing but junk food. It is likely that they have some issues with acne. Experts agree that a good, healthy diet can go a long way towards either preventing acne or helping diminish it. The Chinese believe, and have been widely accepted in their belief, that acne is solely attributed to a poor diet. They claim that too much sugar or grease leads to the potential for acne. Thus, they discourage the consumption of excessive amounts of chocolate and fried foods. Fruits and vegetables are generally considered better for the skin and a deterrent to acne. Another factor known to eliminate acne is continual drinking of water. Drinking plenty of it is your best bet to avoid acne.

We all know that an important part of our body that requires constant care is the skin. The skin is a shield that protects you; this is why you should always be careful with its treatment. One of the most frequent problems when it comes to your skin is acne, which can appear on many parts of your body, including your face, which is the most upsetting thing for people in general.

Some people consider acne a small issue but for many it is a serious problem that sometimes causes a loss of self confidence. Acne can have a completely different effect on people’s skin; this is why various types of treatments are needed to differentiate from one case to another. You need a constant acne control if you have problems so that the long term effects won’t be too severe.

What Do Antibiotics Do For Acne Control?

A common treatment in acne control is the use of antibiotics, which are very effective in protecting the skin from bacteria and besides, the antibiotics can also prevent your skin from irritations caused by white blood cells and oily skin. A visit to the doctor is always beneficial so that you can find the best antibiotics for your particular condition.

Antibiotics such as Tetracycline, Erythromycin, Minocycline, Doxycycline, and Clindamycin are the most common used for acne control. They are usually very efficient for acne control but you should always use them according to your doctor’s prescription. It is essential that this advice is followed, especially if you are a woman as one of the side effects is that bovver use can lead to Candida vaginal yeast infections.

Acne Control Based On Pills

It is a fact that birth control pills have the capacity of bringing a balance to hormone levels, so when you consider that a great deal of acne comes from a build up of hormones it is easy to see why they are also very efficient when it comes to acne control. What you have to bear in mind however, is that each body reacts in a different way to acne and to acne control treatments.

This is true for birth control birth as well. Balancing the hormones is not something that helps everyone who suffers from acne, so although there are many people that are happy to say birth control pills had a great effect in treating their acne problems, conversely you can also find many who will say that these pills have done more damage than good in what concerns the acne control and say that they suffered unwanted side effects.

So there you have it these are all points to consider when looking at acne control, the point is that everyone is different and you have to experiment with different prescriptions and topical creams to find the best for you.

A person that has got acne on his or her face will no doubt be frantically searching for a solution from among the many therapies available that will help eliminate the ugliness and embarrassment caused by such spots.
According to available research on the topic, a change in diet can significantly improve how the skin looks as well as feels. And, if one also takes vitamin for acne, the impact is nothing short of dramatic. The existence of vitamins in most healthy as well as natural foods is a major reason why acne gets reduced after introduction into the stomach of such food types.

Another of the effective vitamins for acne is vitamin B that is contained in sweet potatoes, green peppers as well as chickpeas and it helps defeat acne while also being an antioxidant as well. However, there may not be a better vitamin for acne than vitamin C that is instrumental in increasing immunity that in turns eliminates acne and is present in citrus fruits, thus making it excellent for the treatment of your acne condition.

Another healing vitamin for acne is vitamin E that is a great battler of acne and it helps protect the skin as well as does not allow for further outbreaks of acne. Your best bet in combating acne with the help of vitamin for acne is to eat whole foods, which is a natural as well as healthy means of keeping the spots from appearing. In addition, you may also wish for some vitamin supplements though you should remember not to take too many vitamins, which can be a dangerous thing for you.

This bacterium is an important aspect in the forming of acne because it feeds with the oil released by the Sebaceus gland.

The skin condition known as acne is one of the most painful parts of the teenage years. Although no one knows what specifically causes the condition, some acne treatment methods do offer hope that by lessening the severity and frequency of the outbreaks, the adolescent may get through those embarrassing outbreaks with the least amount of social embarrassment.

Frequent washing of the face with unscented soap so to remove excessive oil is recommended. If you’re oily, the more you wash the better. Three times daily is the minimum, preferably after each meal. Your goal is to degrease the skin, which will alleviate the acne that stems from too much oil. Mildly oily skin reacts very well to Ivory soap.

Topical solutions that dry the skin and promote peeling may help to eliminate acne over time. Over-the-counter preparations may contain benzoyl peroxide (a potent antibacterial agent) sulfur, or resorcinol. There are numerous over-the-counter acne soaps for tougher oil problems, among them SAStid, Sulphur Soap, Acnaveen and Acne-Aid. These contain strong drying agents and/or substances that promote peeling. If you’re black or dark complexioned, beware of resorcinol; it can cause dark stains and blotches on your skin. And if you’re using one of the acne soaps, start slowly. You don’t want to dry out or start peeling too fast; wash once daily at first and gradually increase to two or three times per day.

In more severe cases, topical or oral antibiotics like tetracycline and erythromycin may be prescribed.

A synthetic form of vitamin A (topical tretinoin) -administered either topically or orally—is useful against cystic acne (although it may cause birth defects when taken orally by pregnant women).

Controlled exposure to sunlight or artificial ultraviolet light may help to heal acne. The key words here are controlled. Severe sunburn can cause skin damage far beyond what would be received by acne scarring, and may lead to melanoma. Sunlight is beneficial to the skin, in fact, some exposure to sunlight is vital to good health, but exposure to the sun’s rays to the level that would case burning and peeling is dangerous..

In extreme cases chemical peeling, surgical drainage, or removal of cysts may be warranted.

While reducing or eliminating the use of cosmetics is not an acne treatment as such, it is apparent that substances which block the pores of the skin can lead to excessive trapping of byproducts of skin surface metabolism. Allowing the skin to breathe will prevent some if not all of the oily blockage.

Consult a doctor or dermatologist to discuss optimal ways to treat acne.

Acne can be controlled in several ways, but the choice of methods is up to the individual, and may depend on the severity of the skin condition.

Taking oral antibiotics is one sure way in which acne can be controlled. Some of the best known antibiotics for acne are erythromycin, minocycline, doxycycline and clindamycin.

Of these, erythromycin is the safest. It is better than tetracycline. Erythromycin has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce redness in lesions in addition to killing the bacteria. The usual dosage is one 250 mg capsule taken twice a day after meals. Erythromycin has the advantage of being safe for pregnant women.

Minocycline is a derivative of tetracycline. The recommended dosage is 50 mg to be taken twice a day after meals.

Doxycycline can be used by individuals who do not respond to erythromycin or tetracycline. The recommended dosage is 50 mg to be taken twice a day after meals.

Clindamycin is also a very useful antibiotic used mostly in tropical climates. The recommended dosage is 75 mgs twice a day after meals.

All the above antibiotics have a common side effect in addition to specific side effects related to each antibiotic. The common side effect is nausea. It is highly recommended that, before taking any antibiotic medicine, a physician should be consulted to determine the most suitable antibiotic based on side effects tolerance.

Other than the antibiotics, acne could be controlled using light or laser treatment. This is one of the most successful ways how acne could be controlled quickly and with no side effects. Basically, laser treatment is exposure of the affected skin area to sudden bursts of light. An individual could get substantial results within a period of six weeks if this treatment is done effectively.

Another way in which acne can be controlled is by regulating your diet, daily exercise and stress releasing relaxation. Eating a well balanced diet coupled with good exercise and some ‘yoga’ for relaxation will help to control acne.

Baby acne is a very common condition appearing in many newborns at about age 3-4 weeks. Unfortunately, the truth of the condition is that instead of seeing a beautiful newborn infant with delicate baby soft skin, the parent who is suffering from sleep deprivation at about this time, is trying to deal with an infant who is miserable and extremely fussy. Then, to top it all off, the little bundle of joy develops a case of baby acne and is red-faced from crying, has whiteheads, blackheads and pus-filled cysts on their raw and irritated faces.

Most parents are nearly frantic with worry and concern at this point. They are sure their child has some life-threatening condition that is incurable. In truth, the infant is suffering from a case of baby acne. The hormonal changes which occurred in the mother during her pregnancy also passed through the placenta to the baby. At about this period in life, the effects of the extra hormones from the mother are lessening and it is precisely those hormonal changes which are a prime factor in causing acne, whether in the adolescent years, adulthood, or infancy.

Many parents will assume that the baby’s skin is dry, so will add extra oil to the skin, in an effort to soften and soothe. Or, the parent may assume they have failed in their duty to keep the baby’s skin clean, so the parent will work harder at cleansing by using stronger soaps or shampoos.

In fact, both of these approaches can do much to worsen the condition of baby acne. The pustules, bumps, whiteheads and blackheads are neither the result of dirt, nor faulty cleaning methods. The dry and irritated skin does not additional oil. Just as in treating adolescent and adult acne problems, baby acne is best treated by a regimen of very gentle cleansing of the skin twice daily, followed by a gentle non-oily moisturizer.

In both cases, it is important to pat or blot rather than scrub or massage deeply. Scrubbing at this age of life can lead to permanent skin damage, causing a risk of early wrinkling and creases in adulthood. Any procedure which stresses the cells which make up the surface of the skin can be deeply regretted in later life.

Consult with your child’s pediatrician if the severity or duration of baby acne seems to be lasting longer than usual. Ordinarily, the child will outgrow the condition by about six months of age.

Today, as we open the newspapers or magazines we find a multitude of advertisements that promote various types of applications of creams and ointments for various skin conditions. Many individuals who had tried some of these colorful and much promoted ‘miracle cures’ have faced side effects that are more costly to control than what they paid for their ‘cream’ that promised to cure their skin condition. In this same vein, individuals who are unfortunately affected by the skin condition known as acne are reluctant to take the oral antibiotics or apply ‘creams’ fearing side effects. This has resulted in more and more affected individuals turning to natural ways to treat acne condition.

Most dermatologists today are convinced that the main cause for the skin condition known as acne is due to three reasons.

One is due to poor eating habits. Poor eating habits stem from our busy work schedules. This makes us addicted to junk food. We have no time for a proper meal. Most of these junk food a slow killers. They contain high amounts of fatty substance and lack even basic nutrition that is necessary for the body.

The second is lack of exercise. Most Americans today lack sufficient exercise. We have seen many individuals who leave their homes – get in to their vehicle – drive to the office where they sit at their work stations until time to get up again their lunch break.

The third reason is the lack of relaxation for the body. Each individual needs a certain amount of unwind activities in order to relax and get rid of the stress.

The highly recommended natural treatment for acne is regular exercise, a well balanced diet containing lots of green leaves and vegetables and some relaxation to relieve the stress. Regular exercise will encourage a person to eat well. Eating a well balanced diet with stress relieving relaxation like ‘yoga’ will improve the appearance of the skin.

In addition to the above, there are some natural medicines at home which have no side effects at all and minimal extra cost. Natural lime juice mixed with some turmeric powder applied on the skin about half an hour before the bath will make the skin glow and rid it of all infections including acne. Working with nature and its products is a better way to treat acne than those expensive drugs that are available at your pharmacy.
